Transcripts
It is the candidate's responsibility to determine that all educational requirements have been met. For Virginia candidates, degree conferral and all courses related to meeting the CPA Exam's educational requirement must be completed, and documented on official transcripts.
Previously submitted official transcript(s) and/or Board-approved foreign academic credentials evaluation(s) remain on file, and do not need to be resubmitted to the Board. Unless previously provided to the board, candidates must arrange for all official documents detailing completion of all educational requirements to the submitted directly to the Board from the institution or Board-approved foreign credentials evaluation service. Most college and university transcripts only indicate the total transfer units accepted and do not list the titles of the individual courses. Therefore, candidates must ensure that each educational institution attended provides the Board with official transcripts.
CONTINENTAL UNITED STATES (CONUS) GRADUATES: All required coursework and degree conferral must be shown on official transcripts and must be mailed directly from the college/university to the Board of Accountancy, or the official transcript must be mailed to the CPA candidate in a sealed envelope with the college/university official (registrar) signature or seal overlaying the flap of the envelope. The Virginia Board of Accountancy will not accept any envelope that is opened or appears to have been opened. Prior to requesting official transcript(s), please confirm with your school that all required information has been posted.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Candidates who attended or have graduated from foreign (Non-CONUS) college/university may satisfy the CPA Exam education requirements based upon an evaluation of foreign transcripts by any of the Board-approved foreign credential evaluation services. It is the candidate's responsibility to ensure the timely submission of the evaluation. Official evaluations must be emailed to the Board directly from the foreign credential evaluation service at transcripts@boa.virginia.gov. The transcript evaluation must show a course-by-course breakdown.
