Virginia Has Reduced the Number of Hours of Education Required to Take the CPA Examination Effective May 14, 2009
Virginia’s education requirements for taking the CPA examination are no longer the same as its education requirements for obtaining a Virginia license.

  • The two other education requirements for taking the CPA examination have not been changed: a baccalaureate or higher degree and an accounting concentration or equivalent.
  • The three education requirements for obtaining a Virginia license have not been changed: 150 semester hours of education, a baccalaureate or higher degree, and an accounting concentration or equivalent.
